Summer Sketching III: Advance Warning...

Woodman Entrance Saturday 13th June is the date of the third session of our 2009 Summer Sketching Programme. Our venue is the Blackpill area and Clyne Gardens off the Mumbles Road and you should park in the section of the car park at the Woodman Inn (entrance pictured) which is reserved for visitors to the park.

The session lasts from around 12 noon to about 4pm, when there's a mini exhibition.

Last year this venue was enjoyed by everyone and this is a lovely venue in which to paint, e.g. the flora, fauna and garden architecture of Clyne Gardens, the play area at Blackpill or the seascape of Swansea Bay.

Please come along - you'll really enjoy yourself.

The Sat Nav of the car park is SA3 5AS and here's a map of the area to guide you:

Summer Sketching II: Advance Notice...

Worms Head Saturday 23rd May is the date of the second session of our 2009 Summer Sketching Programme.

Our venue is the village of Rhossili and you should park at the main car park as you enter the village (charge payable).

The session lasts from around 12 noon to about 4pm, when there's a mini exhibition.

Last year this venue was a complete washout, but we've got our fingers crossed this time for fine weather, as this is a lovely picturesque venue in which to paint. Please come along - you'll really enjoy yourself.

However, in Rhossili as in all outdoor painting events, you should always take care, as this area can be dangerous.

For those of you who have Sat Nav systems, the postcode of the Visitor Centre (nearby) is SA3 1PR, but as the road stops at this point you should hopefully hear the "you've now reached your destination" message long before you reach the cliff's edge!

A re-scalable google map of the area is included below:

Summer Sketching I: Report.....

Unfortunately, the stormy weather discouraged members from attending last Saturday's event - only three hardy souls turned up!

Let's hope there is some better sketching weather ahead this summer.

Portraiture Group: End Of Term

A reminder that the last meeting of the Tuesday Portraiture Group for this academic year will be held on May 26th.

We regret that there will be no group meetings in June, as was announced in the Summer membership card.

For more information please contact Don Leech, whose telephone number is to be found on the SAS Summer membership card.

Summer Sketching Begins.....

GowerHeritageCentre Saturday 16th May is the date of the first session of the 2009 Summer Sketching Programme. Our venue is the village of Parkmill and you should park at the Gower Heritage Centre (charge payable).

The session lasts from around 12 noon to about 4pm, when there's a mini exhibition. It's a great feeling for an artist to sketch or paint outdoors (weather permitting) and this experience is further enhanced by being part of a group consisting of other like-minded art society members. So please come along - you'll really enjoy yourself.

Although the weather forecast looks like rain for this Saturday, there is ample opportunity to sketch indoors at this venue.

For those of you who have Sat Nav systems, the postcode of the Centre is SA3 2EH and a re-scalable google map of the area is included below:

Winter Programme VII: Advance Notice...

The next and final demonstration in the Winter Programme is this Friday, 24th April at the normal venue, i.e. St. Illtyd's Church Hall from 1pm onwards.

We are looking forward to observing the artistry of demonstrator Sue McDonach again this year and her specialist theme for Friday will be Painting Children through the pastel medium.

All members are welcome.

Winter Progamme VI: Report...

Over 40 members (and guests) enjoyed Arnold Lowrey's demonstration, where he completed not one, but two large paintings in the two and a half hours allocated!

He showed his methods of how to lay down large washes and produce a strong body of colour, whilst retaining the luminosity of the watercolours when working 'wet'.

His tips on how to use a razor blade and a natural sponge for producing special effects in painting seascapes are now being tried by some of our members - no doubt we'll see the evidence at our next exhibition.

The photos of the session have been added to the Winter Programme album and can be viewed by clicking here.
