Winter Exhibition Artworks Online!

The artworks in the Winter Exhibition have now been photographed and edited and are now available to view online.

The details of each title and artist from the catalogue will be added over the next few days, but the images are now housed as a collection.

The winner of the Best Painting In Show of this year's Winter exhibition, Jean Andrewartha, is here pictured being presented with the new 'trophy' by Society Chairman, Brian Griffin.

Winter Exhibition: 'Best In Show' .....

The Best Painting In Show was decided by a ballot of members at the opening of the Winter Exhibition and the winner is a pastel work entitled The Red Fox Fur by Jean Andrewartha.

Winter Exhibition Opens...

The society's winter exhibition at St. Mary's Church, Swansea was formally opened this afternoon by the Rev. Andrew Vessey.

There are sixty-nine paintings being exhibited and there are many unframed paintings also offered for sale.

The exhibition continues daily (10am-4pm, except Sundays) until Saturday 13th December.

Winter Exhibition: Growing Anticipation...

The SAS Winter Exhibition is being held at St Mary's Church, Swansea, from Tuesday next week [Handing In takes place on Monday, 10.30am-12.30pm].

All our members recently received a couple of A5 advertising leaflets [with the November newsletter] and we asked our membership to try to raise awareness of the exhibition by word of mouth or by contacting local traders or societies etc. to display the leaflets!

NOW is the time to spread the word and this week we've been busy dropping the A5 advertising leaflets off at various venues in Swansea. So far we have covered:

• Glynn Vivian Art Gallery
• Dylan Thomas Centre
• Swansea Main Library
• Waterfront Museum
• Swansea Museum
• Main Tourist Information Centre 
• Grand Theatre

We have also dropped off leaflets at:

• Uplands: Post Office & several shops/businesses
• Sketty: Library, Post Office & several shops/businesses
• Mumbles: Library & Information Centre
• St. Helen's Road: Post Office & shops
• Killay: Post Office & shops

 Press Releases and emails have also been sent to various media outlets in the area.

If you can think of anywhere else, please take your leaflets there yourself or get in touch with us and let us know.

Winter Programme II: Report...

The Graham Hadlow watercolour demo was extremely well attended, with almost fifty members present!

Graham's theme was tumbling water and he produced two paintings, one of which was the Betws-y-Coed waterfall.

The feedback from members was that they received a valuable amount of practical information, e.g. how to paint massed trees in leaf and portray ripples in water, both notoriously difficult subject for artists.

As mentioned in the newsletter, the society is running a workshop lead by Graham on Thursday the 8th of January and there are a few places still available.

A Family Show...

SAS member Jean Thomas and her daughter Ann, are currently staging the second joint exhibition of their original paintings and silver and semi-precious stone jewellery, entitled Silver & Silk.

Their exhibition lasts until the 15th November, 2008 and is at the Neville Gallery, Llanelli.

It's that time of year again...

The Oriel Richards Gallery at the Taliesin Centre, Swansea University invite all our members to visit their Christmas 2008 Show.

The exhibition of artworks, crafts and jewellery lasts from the 15th November until the 23rd December.
