Winter Exhibition Ends.....

Reminder: The exhibition will be taken down on Friday 2nd December and the unsold artworks will be available for return to members from 12noon to 2pm.

Exhibition Opens.....

Over 150 artworks are available for the public to view in this year's Winter Exhibition at St Mary's Church, Swansea.

We were indebted to the new Vicar, the Revd. Simon Griffiths for officially opening the exhibition and addressing the members present. He is pictured here being thanked by our President, Eileen Campbell Jones.

An Exhibition Emerges....

Today's 'Handing In' went smoothly, with 73 framed artworks making up this year's Winter Exhibition at St. Mary's Church, Swansea.

Committee members are pictured here in the process of creating the finished spectacle.

The exhibition will be officially opened tomorrow (22nd November) at 2pm by the new Vicar of St Mary's, the Revd. Simon Griffiths and will continue until Thursday December 1st (excluding Sundays).

 

Next Week.....

The 'Handing In' day for our winter exhibition is next Monday from 10.30am onwards.

All exhibitors will be given an A4 version of the poster below to place somewhere prominent, to help oil our publicity machine!

 

Special Exhibition Opens.....

The special two-day exhibition of members' paintings commenced today at the Ostreme Centre, Oystermouth, Mumbles and we were extremely pleased at members' response to this one-off venture, to help celebrate our 125th anniversary.

The exhibition will be open tomorrow, Thursday 4th August, from 9am-4pm and all members who brought along their work will have to collect their unsold artworks between 4pm and 5pm.

 

 

Member's Exhibition Opens.....

SAS member, Cheryl Stone is currently holding a solo exhibition of her watercolour landscapes at the Oriel Bach, in Oystermouth, Mumbles.

The exhibition opened this evening and runs until Sunday 7th August.

125th Anniversary Exhibition Opens.....

The opening ceremony of the society's 125th anniversary summer exhibition took place at the Grand Theatre last night.

Glenys Cour, who is a noted professional artist and former art lecturer formally opened proceedings.

She gave an interesting speech, in which she anecdotally reminded those present how the society had changed since she was President many years ago, but also how many aspects of the society's work remained unchanged.

She was thanked for her words by Chairman Brian Griffin and was afterwards presented with a colourful bouquet of flowers by society President, Eileeen Campbell Jones.

The exhibition has 106 artworks in a wide diversity of media and genre and continues for the next two weeks. Entrance to the exhibition is free and framed paintings are offered for sale.

Exhibition Opening Tonight.....

All the paintings handed in yesterday have now been expertly hung.

The artworks are available to view on the website right now, by clicking on the image link in the left sidebar (or via the PHOTO ARCHIVES link on the Navigation Bar at the top).

All members are invited to tonight's Opening Ceremony at the Grand Theatre Arts Wing, Swansea, from 7pm onwards.

Our guest speaker is a former President of the Society, Ms. Glenys Cour.

This article about the Victorian-themed event last Saturday appeared in the South Wales Evening Post on Tuesday 24th May (reprinted courtesy of the newspaper).

The event celebrated the exact day 125 years ago when the Swansea Art Society was founded.

Several more events are planned in this year's outdoor sketching programme - we hope that all members will do what they can to support the society's efforts to collectively congratulate ourselves after 125 creative years and spread the word to new prospective artist members.

Summer Programme 1: Victorian Splendour.....

The first event of this year's Outdoor Sketching Programme took place last Saturday in the grounds of St. Mary's Church.

To commemorate the society's 125th anniversary, members turned up in Victorian costume (or their variant of it, anyway) and painted from easels.

Lots of passers by expressed interest and we all had a lively time - thankfully the rain stayed away.
