Several SAS members will be exhibiting their artworks as part of the Swansea Print Workshop Exhibition to be held in the White Room, Grand Theatre, Swansea from November 4th to the 28th.

The Exhibition Begins...

Our Summer Exhibition at St. Mary's Church, Swansea was officially opened this afternoon by Swansea's Deputy Lord Mayor, Richard Lewis, who is pictured here after being introduced by the society's Chairman, Brian Griffin.

The art collection of 51 exhibits can be publicly viewed at the Church between 10am and 5pm on Mondays to Saturdays and continues until Saturday 8th August. Paintings are offered for sale.

Member's Exhibition Notice...

A Brush With Art - an exhibition of paintings by Llanelli artist Frank Goddard is on currently and runs until September 19th at the Parc Howard Museum and Art Gallery, Llanelli.

For those of you with SatNav, the postcode of the gallery is SA15 3LJ.

Frank, who has been painting since 1954, states: "....My influences are mainly the french impressionists and then Modigliani, Rouault and Picasso... I would recommend anyone to take up Art in any form for relaxation and to observe the beauty we have around us."

Admission is free.

Ian's Bache Cup Winning Entry...

Ian has sent us a good quality photograph of his watercolour, Oxwich Greenwoods which was voted the Best Members' Painting at the recent A.G.M. of the Society.

The painting, which was strikingly large, depicts sunlight shining through the leaves of trees:

 

 

AGM 2009: Bache Cup Winner...

Congratulations to Ian Stevenson on 'lifting' the Irene Bache Cup, which is awarded annually for the Best Painting entered for the competition at the Annual General Meetings of the Society.

He is pictured here celebrating his win after being presented with the cup from last year's winner, George Jowett.

The standard of entries was high and this resulted in the voting for this year's ballot to be very close indeed.

The top three artists voted by our members were...

• Ian Stevenson (7 votes)
• Jean Andrewartha (6 votes)
• Lilian Hopkins (6 votes)

Does Anyone Have Any Information?

We've been contacted by Mary Webb, Managing Director of the Montchanin Fine Art Gallery, in Greenville, Delaware, U.S.A.

She is researching a watercolour painting (illustrated) by the 19th century watercolourist, Alfred Rawlings and she thinks he might have been one of the earliest members of the Swansea Art Society, together with his contemporary, C.H. Moor.

AGM: Only Days To Go.....

The 2009 Annual General Meeting and Social Evening of the Society is being held this Thursday, the 19th February, at St. Paul's Parish Centre, Sketty, Swansea.

The format of the evening, from 7pm onwards will be:

• Formal business of the AGM, including reports from the Chairman, President & Treasurer and voting for officers.
• Refreshments, consisting of food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
• Viewing the displayed paintings entered for the Irene Bache Members' Cup and voting for the best painting. 
• The Grand Raffle of donated prizes, many of which are art-related
• An auction of donated paintings, which is an entertaining spectacle, whether you wish to bid or not.

All members are welcome.
